Desktop Magic

Bild von Claire L. Evans
I made a short, slightly stupid movie illustrating the evocative power of recontextualization. Also, since we buy into the metaphor of a desktop in the first place, you really can’t say that computers aren’t magic.

Setting up partitions for Jaunty Jackalope

Bild von sermoa
I’m never really sure how i should partition my desktop computer. I spend ages reading out-of-date conflicting information about what is and isn’t necessary.
I had the Windows 7 beta on a partition on this computer and just wanted to get rid of it. It’s nice to completely refresh a computer every so often.
One thing i know is that i like having a separate /home partition because it makes upgrading easier. Debian used to offer to create that for me, but Ubuntu seems to think that everything should go in one huge partition. I’ve accepted that in the past and it’s worked fine, but this time i wanted to be a bit more specific.
So here is my thought process:
10 GB for /
100 MB for /boot
50 GB for /home
10 GB for /usr
2 GB for swap
a bunch of free space for other stuff that i might want to put on in the future.
