Me back in 1984 with my Commodore Vic 20

Bild von Extra Ketchup
This was the computer, my first computer, that forever changed my life and set me on the path I’m on today. I think I was in 7th grade in this photo. After the VIC-20 followed the C=64, then my favorite, the C=128. When I went into the Navy I had to sell off my computers, but after my training I got an Amiga 500. However, I still have fond memories of those early days of sitting down with a Commodore magazine and typing in a program for hours to play a game or do something cool. There was something magical about those days, so I was thrilled when I found this old photo of those great days!

What about a drobo? We just got one in at work to play with and it’s really nice.
They look pretty good but the price doesn’t – £329 (Amazon) is a bit much after getting the iMac, so for now I’m sticking with the £15 USB caddy idea.
Plus, for that much money I’d want ethernet as standard, but that’s even more.

Seen on your photo stream. (?)
You missed the sexy cooling grills at the bottom.
oh great
unfortunately i missed those times
Wow, my parents have a *very* similar photograph of me, slightly younger, minus the helmet.

Hi Extra Ketchup, I love this picture.
I was just like this 15 years ago, change the computer and the hat… it’s me !
Ahhh, how i miss the good old days. Where’ your atari though.
The Atari is in the living room hooked up to the color TV
great shot – i wish i could find a pic of me and my tandy cc2 that used to be in our basement complete w/ tape drive and thermal printer!
gooooood old times !!!
!
Awesome! I got a Vic20 around that time too. I had memorized so many peeks and pokes, I felt like a…well, ok, it was just saying the truth: I’m a geek.
My parents got an 8086 PC after I had sold the Vic, and I was on that until 1993 when I finally got an Amiga 1200.
Such good times!
Now, I just emulate.
Thanks for sharing such awesome memories! I too started on a Vic-20 and remember typing in programs from Compute! magazine and the forever "Press Play On Tape" message. Next came the 64, 1541 disk drive with it’s rattle, and 1084 monitor. Last was the Amiga 1000 with it’s designer signatures on the inside cover and killer graphics and stereo sound. Ahhh… those were the days. (-:

I was compelled to start the Your Geekiest Photos group. Perhaps you could compound your embarrassment/pride by joining?
Man, I’m digging that chemistry set! Awesome…had one just like it.
Nothing like trying to find the exact spot on the cassette to load your program…
this picture is amazing. everything is in its right place
this rocks. geek on bro.
No one mentioned the chemistry set to the left! You can’t get those any more, they’re deemed "unsafe".
It’s amazing we survived all the "unsafe" stuff back then
Hi, I’m an admin for a group called Life is Dynamite, and we’d love to have this added to the group!
I had the exact same chemistry set. I didn’t do anything with it though.
This is great!
Thanks a bizillion, Extra Ketchup.

Wonderful, Wonderful picture. I still have all of my original Commodore equipment… (Vic-20′s,64′s,Amigas, Lt. Kernal HD, etc.) I also have all my original floppies that as of about 5 years ago were all still readable. When I fired the old 64 BBS setup back up it was just like it was when I shut it off for good. Do the initials FBR, ATC, ESI, FLT mean anything to any of you?
mmm, lovely.
Hahaha. Lovely!

wow…. I had a Vic-20 also, I sure dont miss the tape drive. It took a half hour to load a program that most of the time wouldnt work. Thanks for sharing
that pic is just like an icon for a whole era of computers. It has "everithing" in it. BTW, i like your hat…
looks like you really had your shit together. everything is so well organised! i love the sticky tape fastening the leads to the desk.
I just recognized you in this video trailer of the demonstration "Freiheit Statt Angst/"Freedom not fear" that takes place in Berlin this summer. (with 10.000 people last year)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fkf3NNIYPJo
Wow! Since my ability to speak German is pretty much non-existent, can you give me an idea of what the film is about?
This is the English version of the website about the demonstration: http://www.vorratsdatenspeicherung.de/content/view/304/153/lang,en/
The video is a trailer of the demonstration.
Funny, I had that same chemistry set!

Sweet.
That was my dream when I was a kid
The memories! Not only did I have the Vic 20, but I recognize the chemistry set on the left! I had a very similar one! Thank you for posting this pic; it reminds me of some very happy times. =)
I remember the good old days! The VIC-20 was also my first computer!

LOL
I had a spectrum 48k, spectrum+, a c64 and an atari st500FM
Those were the days
Woah! I haven’t seen those chemistry sets lately. It’s a wonder we didn’t poison ourselves or blow our &$^# heads off! I remember mixing a bunch of stuff together, and then it started to bubble up and spill all over the bright red shag carpet! ha ha. Great times!
I love this image – I’m going to use it in a presentation at a conference as part of a "technology timeline" which seems to be in compliance with your create commons choices but wanted to let you know in case you didn’t want commercial use.
Great photo. It reminds me of my days with my Vic 20. I thought that machine was smoken back then. About 2 years passed and I upgraded to a C-128 which I still have in my garage.
Thanks for sharing and bringing back my youth.

LoL Grayfamilia had the same comment as I did hahhahaa…long live the old school =D
The day I bought my Vic 20 was the day I became an indoorsman! Had the chemistry set too, but found some experiments were best done outside
